Chairs and Ambassadors

Tanya Dobash Berlage is a Partner and Co-Chair of Saul Ewing's Life Sciences Practice Group, where she represents clients in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries.

Immediately prior to joining Saul Ewing, Tanya was Vice President, Chief Counsel, North America for Taro Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc., a multinational pharmaceutical company. From 2001 to 2007, Tanya managed Taro Pharmaceuticals' corporate and commercial legal matters in the United States, Canada and Europe. She worked on matters involving all stages of the pharmaceutical product life cycle, from product development and approval to manufacturing, sales, marketing and distribution. Ms. Berlage oversaw commercial litigation matters for the company's North American operations. She also served on the company's Operating Committee and chaired the company's Compliance Committee.

From 1994 to 2001, Tanya was in private practice and represented domestic and international life sciences clients on numerous issues including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing, collaborative and strategic alliances, clinical research agreements and development and manufacturing arrangements. Bob McHugh is the Manager of Capital Access for the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern PA, a state funded early stage investor in technology based businesses located at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.

Bob is an active member of Pennsylvania's Innovation Partnership, a program that helps companies win federal grants through the SBIR and STTR programs. He is the Chairman of the Funding Committee for the Federal Marketing Assistance Grant program and a member of the Funding Committee for the Micro Grant program.

Since 2004 Bob has been involved with the Early Stage East Venture Conference as a member of the Selection Committee and the Coaching Committee. He has participated as a judge and coach in the New Jersey Venture Fair and the Angel Venture Fair. Bob has been a speaker on early stage investing at the New York Venture Summit and Early Stage East Bio-Life-Tech.

Prior to joining Ben Franklin in 1995, Bob owned a career counseling business, tried executive recruiting, suffered in a human resource position and worked on an assembly line while attending graduate school.

Bob is a graduate of Penn State with a B.S. in Economics and Lehigh University with a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Counseling Psychology. He is an adjunct faculty member at DeSales University, teaching courses in entrepreneurship and strategic planning.
